Great Lakes Native Americans and the Irish have a common ancient legend of interaction with each other via ocean crossing by small vessels made from hide with wooden ribs. Both ancient cultures have a strong tradition of Wise Old Grandmothers who guide their cultural heritage correctly. Using the Currauch as metaphor for a message from humanity’s primordial archetypal Grandmother, this sculpture gives multi-dimensional form to that spiritual saying. This sculpture’s concept conveys unconventional conceptual dynamics between relational perceptions of water and vessel, and, between those and other potent symbolic meanings; working a shift within human consciousness.
